In my second year, I worked on a live brief with AgeUK, collaborating on the development of an app designed to support adults living with dementia and their carers. The app aimed to provide carers with respite by offering short, easy-to-follow animated videos that guide users through everyday tasks. After AgeUK consulted carers to identify the most valuable tasks, our student groups were assigned different topics to develop and present for client feedback. The project involved extensive research and even a dementia awareness training course provided by AgeUK to ensure the animations were clear, accessible, and appropriate for the intended audience. Within my group, I took on the role of character designer, building and rigging a character in Photoshop in order to be animated by the team in CelAction. This project was both highly informative and rewarding, giving me experience of working with a real client, adapting design for a sensitive audience, and contributing to work with real social impact.
